In this picture, it can be seen that the doors are very weathered, unfortunately I don't have a picture of their original state, as they were allot worse than this, this picture is after an acid wash, rinse and extensive sanding and dusting. The doors were kept for sentimental reasons.
Cedar Roller Door before. This Picture was taken after I sanded all the weathered flaking and wood rot off the door, I should have taken a picture of how bad it was before. Wooden doors like these should be maintained with a re-coat every 3-5 years just so it doesn't get this bad. When this happens the stain and varnish re-coat colour will not look the same across all of the door. So to fix it, needs an artist approach to try and even out and blend the colours to make what was damaged not look so damaged, there is allot of work in this kind of repair, so please bear in mind if you have one of these doors, to keep up the maintenance on it and it will continue to look new.
This is the door after all the restoration, I used tinters on a colour palete to make the colors more uniform and Sikkens Cetol Supernatural which is a water-based, quick-drying, medium-build transparent satin topcoat with added UV filters.
This is after I scraped sanded and dusted all the worn varnish off, the colour and application was irregular and unsightly to look at.
This door is after I had finished.
This door was quite tricky because of all the panels and the places where the varnish can overlap and run, the trick to doing all varnish is to do it in a way to keep the wet edge seperate but also connected to the next part to be varnished. I used four coats of Sikkens Cetol Supernatural which is a water-based, quick-drying, medium-build transparent satin topcoat with added UV filters. Because it is water based it doesn't smell like an oil based varnish, and it can be recoated in that same day rather than the next day, keeping the price of the job lower, with a superior product and finish.
